I’m not sure if it’s because I had my own baby this last year or if I’m just reaching a new appreciation for women and motherhood in general, but maternity sessions mean so very much to me. This one was extra special as Sarah is actually my sister and this pregnancy came as a big surprise to their family. It had been several years since she’d had her last baby and so this felt new and unfamiliar to her, even though she’d been through this before. Fellow mamas, I’m sure you can relate to how each pregnancy is different and special; it feels different with each one because you’re a different woman with each one. Anyways, before I get too sappy on the magic that is motherhood, let’s dive in to this gorgeous Oregon maternity session we did one summer evening.
Sarah and Chris live just outside of Salem and so there was a park I’d been wanting to explore for quite some time. Since I live up in Vancouver, I don’t often have a chance to get down into the Willamette Valley because I’m usually traipsing around mountains and off in the Gorge! I’m so glad we wandered off here though because it was stunning and I can’t wait to get back. The golden hour glow, the tall grass, the logs & trees: I seriously can’t imagine what it’s like in the fall (*cough cough* contact me here if you want your session here!)
We ran around with the boys, played Red Light Green Light, and just loved up on one another while the sun kept setting and the sky kept glowing. If you’re worried about how your kiddos will do, have no fear! I do my best to play games, lighten the mood, and make the evening a good time. If you’re worried how they’ll do post bedtime or in a strange place, consider booking an in home session!
Then it became time to just focus on mom and dad while the kiddos played in the field. I mean, just look at the love between these two! My favorite part of maternity sessions is seeing the love and admiration that comes through during this season of life. When dad’s have such a respect and appreciation for what their wives and partners go through to bring life into this world that it’s written all over their face, it just makes my heart skip a beat.
